SEO Localized
Monday, April 14th, 2008As Search Engine Optimization becomes more competitive, firms begin to take a more localized approach. Imagine you started out 7 years ago and wanted to hold the #1 position for “real estate” or “lawyers”. You could. Moreover, you could with little effort, some meta data changes, and 50 words of content.
These days, very few will target such a broad general keyword. It’s nearly impossible in the short term to gain any traction with such generic keyword phrases.
More and more, location plays into the SEO world.
New York Mortgage companies target keywords such as:
- ny mortgage company
- ny mortgage services
- new york mortgage rate
SEO Companies are targeting keywords such as:
- ny seo company
- new york seo
- ny seo services
These keywords are much easier to target. Adding a location almost guarantees a top 10 position on at least one major search engine, assuming you are doing it the right way.
What’s the right way? Let me tell you … a little bit:
The search engine is a robot. It is a machine that goes through a checklist to figure out where you should rank for particular keywords. Manipulating your website so that the search engine connects you to these keywords is not rocket science … but is time consuming and does require some testing.
In the end, you will need to generate the “on-page” theme that helps the search engine understand what you are all about — connecting you to keywords. Then, you will have to build quality link popularity and natural link patterns that the search engine can connect with that on page theme. In doing these 2 things correctly, you will achieve and sustain top 10 placement on the major search engines for localized keywords. There’s much more to it, but this is a great start.
