2008 World Series, Who Will Win the National League Championship? | 2008 World Series tickets
Friday, October 24th, 2008
Have you gotten your tickets for the 104th edition of Major League Baseball’s championship series, the 2008 World Series? The best-of-seven playoff will be played between the champions of the National League and the American League. The overall champion will be decided on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. The question is, will there be a game 7, if so it will take place on Thursday, October 30.
The World Series is played, postseason, each October between the championships of National League and the American League. Many years ago, the World Series was dubbed the “Fall Classic” by the media and it is sometimes known as the “October Classic” or simply “The Series”. It has been an annual event since 1903, with the exceptions of 1904 in 1994. Seven games are played and the a team that wins the most out of that 7 is the World Series champion. Except in the years 1903, 1919, 1920 and 1921 when 9 games were played.
Just like the Super Bowl 2009 winners, the 2008 World Series winners will receive a trophy and the players will receive rings. They also give a larger portion of the receipts from the gate and the losers do.
Rickie Weeks’ error opened the door for three unearned runs against Yovani Gallardo in a Brewers first playoff in 26 years. But, they did manage to get a run in the 9th inning. Cole Hamels Phillies destroyed the Brewers with 3 runs in the 3rd inning. Hamels even managed to strike out 9 while allowing only two hits in 8 innings of the first game.
In the 2nd game, CC Sabathia lost his magic for the Brewers giving Shane Victorino’s first career grand slam, which was the Phillies first in their postseason history. Milwaukee continued to struggle at the plate, getting only three hits and scoring on a walk and a groundout. Victorino’s broke a tie in the 2nd inning that put Philadelphia 1 win away from a trip to the World Series. The Cubs were undone by 2 errors during the 2nd inning by the Dodgers. Chicago now heads to Los Angeles behind, 2-0, in the best-of-5 series.
The Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers cleaned house with their home advantage at Wrigley Field behind a James Loney grand slam in the 5th inning. Moreover, Manny Ramirez blasted a solo shot for his 25th career homer. Ryan Dempster and the Cubs lost the opening game to the Dodgers. Mark DeRosa powered Chicago early on with an 2-run homer, but James Loney’s slam sealed the Cubs’ fate. The Dodgers winning both games at Wrigley was downright phenomenal. With Chad Billingsley playing strong and a Russell Martin 3-run double during a 5-run 2nd inning, the Dodgers took a 2-0 lead over the Cubs.
Maybe things will change in Game 3. See below for a schedule of the American and National League for current standings.
There are still games to be played so do not forget to get your World Series 2008 tickets now or your 2009 Super Bowl tickets.
